Miranda Lorraine Spence has taught at high schools and dance studios across Oklahoma and Texas and choreographed and performed for multiple festivals and productions throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri, including her role as “Maria” in Side Story: Just West of the Musical. She has also received many awards and accolades, including the University of Central Oklahoma’s “Choreographer of the Year” and the Mark of Excellence Talent Competition “National Choreographer” award for her professional and pre-professional choreography.
Miranda started dancing in 2010 under Lisa Motsenbocker at the age of 15 after a 10-year gymnastics career. After graduating high school, Miranda received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). While in college, her piece, Ataxia performed at the Gala for the Central Region conference by the American College Dance Association and was later selected as an alternate to go to the John F. Kennedy Center. Miranda also
received her Master's of Fine Arts From Texas Woman's University, where her research focused on the ways in which choreographers communicate and work with dancers.
Miranda has taught modern, ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, and creative movement classes across Oklahoma and Texas for the last decade. Since graduating from UCO, she has taught in Oklahoma City at North High School and Northwest Classen High School, choreographing for the two high school musicals and dance productions, as well as for the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival in 2016.
She is currently located in the Dallas area, working as the Assistant Director for imPULSE dance project, teaching at Sheena’s Dance Academy in Frisco, and choreographing for Frisco Ballet.
