TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My dance education philosophy is rooted in three guiding principles: individual attention, inclusivity, and the cultivation of knowledge through critical thinking. I believe that teaching dance goes beyond technique. It is about empowering students to grow as artists, thinkers, and individuals.
Individual Attention: I am committed to understanding the unique needs of each student and fostering their personal and artistic growth through empathy, consistency, and thoughtful mentorship. My goal is to meet students where they are, providing individual support to help them move forward with purpose and confidence.
Inclusivity: Creating an inclusive, body-positive classroom environment is essential to my practice. I use empowering, affirming language to promote autonomy, self-love, and confidence in students’ choices. I strive to cultivate a learning environment where all students feel safe, seen, and supported, regardless of their background, identity, or experience level.
Knowledge through Critical Thinking: My curriculums are enriched with content in dance history, anatomy, technical vocabulary, and creative problem-solving. I encourage students to engage with dance as both a physical and intellectual discipline, fostering curiosity and critical thinking. I want students to understand not only how to move, but also why. My goal is to help students develop a deeper awareness of their bodies, the context of their art form, and the world around them.
Ultimately, my aim is to equip students with the tools they need for success, whether they pursue a career in dance or follow other paths. Through individualized support, inclusive practices, and a commitment to knowledge and inquiry, I strive to create a classroom that nurtures confident, informed individuals for their future careers.
